Brewing news UK & Russia: Yorkshire brewery Copper Dragon performed the first of 12 shipments to Moscow, Russian

The four-year-old Skipton brewery Copper Dragon, recognised as one of Britain's fastest growing, has recently dispatched the first of 12 shipments to Moscow with more than 100,000 bottles heading for the Russian capital, Yorkshire Post posted October 14. Further consignments are heading to the Baltic state of Lithuania. The order is made up of Copper Dragon's four-strong bottled beer range: Scots 1816, Golden Pippin, Black Gold and Challenger IPA.

According to Copper Dragon managing director Steve Taylor, who founded the business with Ruth Bennett in 2002, the order came out of the blue.

"I responded to an email a few weeks ago requesting a top-end UK beer for distribution in Russia and shortly after a deal was concluded to supply Moscow's main beer distributor.

"We have already forged ahead in new markets with Copper Dragon available in two of the most discerning beer drinking nations of all – Denmark and Australia – and we are in the process of securing significant orders for a number of nations in Central and Western Europe. These are very exciting times for Copper Dragon and it's amazing to think that our traditional and award winning brews will be heading to the edges of the European continent. However, have no plans to start producing vodka!" added Mr Taylor.

Copper Dragon, Skipton's first brewery for more than 100 years, currently supplies more than 1,000 pubs across the North and has seen an annual doubling in turnover and production since its launch. It is set for further expansion and is in the process of purchasing land for enlarged premises that will generate jobs in the area.
